There is a\nwide range of safety glasses on the market. The choice of models should be\nrelated to the risks to which workers are exposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Safety\nglasses mainly offer protection against mechanical hazards. The characteristics\ngenerally sought for safety glasses are lightness and ergonomics. Other\ncharacteristics may also apply to certain models such as: anti-scratch,\nanti-fog, adjustable temples, lenses with or without anti-fog coating. The final\nchoice of eyewear model varies according to your needs and the environment in\nwhich your workers work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As you can\nsee, there are multiple risks. There are, of course, the mechanical risks,\nthose generated during machining operations where particles are projected.\nSince these particles often move at high speeds, it is easy to conceive of\npossible damage to the eyes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are\nrisks of injury caused by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– The\nprojection of particles<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Shrapnel\nof all kinds<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– The\nprojection of liquid under pressure<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are\nbiological or chemical hazards. These types of risks are frequently found in\nthe medical environment. The same is true in the agri-food sector, or in the\nfield of waste residue management. Here, workers are in the presence of\nmicroorganisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are\nalso risks of injury in the presence of: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Dust;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Aerosol<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Liquid jets<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Gas<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The use\nand\/or handling of chemicals may involve certain risks. Personnel using or\nhandling chemicals must wear the following protective equipment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(a) Safety\nglasses with sides at all times<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(b) a visor<\/a> and goggles<\/a> during pumping operations (industrial cleaning work) or decanting operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PVC suit according<\/a> to product\u2009<\/p>\n\n\n\n (d) PVC gloves<\/a>.\u2009<\/p>\n\n\n\n e) respiratory protection<\/a> according to the nature of the product<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are\nalso risks related to optical radiation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n There are\nrisks of damaging your eyes in the presence of radiation: <\/p>\n\n\n\n –\nUltraviolet\u2009<\/p>\n\n\n\n – Infrared<\/p>\n\n\n\n – Laser\u2009<\/p>\n\n\n\n – Solar\nradiation<\/p>\n\n\n\n – Welding<\/p>\n\n\n\n Radiation\nhazards are often found in steel mills or manufacturing plants where welding is\npart of the assembly process. Unfortunately, the risk of burns and eye damage\nis not uncommon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n There are\nalso thermal risks caused by this: <\/p>\n\n\n\n – Radiant\nheat\u2009<\/p>\n\n\n\n – Spraying\nof molten metals<\/p>\n\n\n\n Take for\nexample the workers who work near ovens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n There is\nalso the risk of electric arcing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n There are\nrisks of: Short circuit electric arc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is no\nrisk of particle splashes or UV radiation in these tasks. Nevertheless, it\nseems quite obvious that you must be familiar with the configuration of each of\nthe workstations in your company before offering anything to your workers as\nvisual protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Regardless\nof the type of hazard you will be controlling, it is important to clearly\ndefine the type of tools you will be using and to be familiar with the type and\nsize of dust you will be dealing with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n If it’s\nheat, understand very well the type of heat and what it can produce on your\nworkers. Especially if you have to work with chemical or biological products.\nIf possible, consult the manufacturers’ Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for\nthese chemicals. When it comes to radiation, it is mandatory that you are\nfamiliar with the wavelengths and nature of radiation sources. The same applies\nto all chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If the workplace is very dusty, safety glasses<\/a> must not only be approved, but above all they must prevent or even limit the dust from entering with the eyes. For general work, safety goggles must be worn at all times. In case of acid products do not skimp on the type of glasses. You will need goggles<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Always use equipment and materials designed to withstand the products being used or handled.
